Sue Brekka, M.A.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Private Practice in West Los Angeles. I treat children, adolescents and adults in individual psychotherapy, from an object relations perspective. I provide an environment of compassion and respect where we can explore the complex dynamics of your internal world. Over time, you will gradually learn to identify the internalized voices of the important people of your childhood. This enables us to understand how these internalized voices impact and oftentimes limit the success of your current relationships. Through the course of treatment, you will begin to understand these dynamics and learn to change dysfunctional patterns in your life, leading to more rewarding and enriching interpersonal relationships.
I have extensive experience working with individuals of all ages in building a healthy body image and a healthy relationship with food. And I have worked with men, women, teens and kids struggling with anxiety and depression.
I completed my Masters and received training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the California Graduate Institute and the CGI Counseling Center, as well as specialized training in group therapy with parents and children at Julia Ann Singer Center's Family Stress Program, and at the Early Childhood Parenting Center (in Santa Monica, and at the Gramercy Housing Project). I have also had the privilege of receiving case supervision from a world renowned psychoanalyst, author and expert in the field of object relations psychoanalysis.
